National Skills Coalition Hosts Virtual Event Advocating Job Creation

06/09/2021

The Committee on Small Business Subcommittee on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Workforce Development held a remote hearing, “Growing Jobs through Infrastructure Investment.”

The national infrastructure has long deteriorated but investing in it today creates millions of good paying jobs for American workers now and into the future. However, it is not enough to create jobs, the country needs a pipeline of skilled workers to fill them. This hearing addressed how small firms and the federal government can leverage workforce development programs to train and upskill the next generation of infrastructure workers.

The fly-in focused on infrastructure and the policies that NSC’s network have highlighted as crucial to any infrastructure and job creation package:

  • Investments in skills training, including funding for support services, industry partnerships, and digital skills
  • Supporting small and mid-sized businesses through incentives for work-based learning
  • Making the higher education system more responsive to students and worker need

Mike Tamasi, Chair of Business Leaders United (BLU), testified on May 6th, in a hearing of the House Committee on Small Business on the need for skills investments in the infrastructure package to help businesses recover.

This National Skills Coalition blog post recaps the event.
